The Zuiki Matsuri is one of the smaller festivals in Kyoto. Among the 4 day long festivities with dance and celebrations at the shrine is also a “small but nice” parade of people dressed in historic costumes that caught my interest.

The Zuiki festival is the first of what will be a very busy month for me. October marks the end of the summer in Japan and there are an abundance of festivals happening during this time.

Website: Website with information about this festival is the one of the Kitano Tenmangu shrine (all in Japanese).

Transport: Bus #50 from Kyoto station: #59 from central Kyoto; #201 from Keihan Demachiyanagi. The shrine is also a short walk from the Kitano Hakubaicho terminus on the Keifuku line. Or come by car, plenty of parking available at the shrine.
