It has been a while since Itsuki and me went traveling – unfortunately her current work schedule doesn’t leave much time for that. However, the Tachi Neputa in Aomori was one of the few festivals that my wife didn’t wanted to miss so off we went by airplane to the northern part of the Honshu main island for a small 4-night trip.

Mountains as far as you can see. What a nice change of scenery after living close to Osaka for the last 3 years.

Tappikaitei has a train tunnel connecting Honshu with Hokkaido island. The cog railway takes you below the sea level where you can explore the tunnels.

A pressure gate makes sure water doesn't come into the tunnel too fast.

After visiting the train tunnel we had some nice Sushi in one of the fisher villages.

A horse fly, i got bitten by one of those things while taking a foot-spa. I've read that only female species bites and sucks blood for reproduction

Nobody knows yet what this towers function was. They are still debating about it.

The trip was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed the nice food and the comfortable climate (compared to muggy and hot Osaka summer). Unfortunately i didn’t get to see all the matsuris up there this year, but i am planing on going back next year myself.
